"BLACK COMEDY"

We are excited to be holding casting sessions for the February 2027 production of Black Comedy. The show is a 1960s comedy set in London, with a cast of nine (traditionally 6 men, 3 women but some flexibility). A young sculptor and his fiancée have borrowed some expensive antique furniture from a neighbour's flat without his permission to impress an elderly millionaire art collector. When a power cut hits, the neighbour returns early, other people also arrive unexpectedly, and matters descend into near-chaos. The concept is that the light and dark are transposed, so the characters are often pretending to be in the dark. Running time approx 80mins.

 

Casting will take place on Monday 21st September, Wednesday 23rd September, and Monday 28th September at 8pm. The 23rd will be at the URC, East Dulwich Grove, SE22 8RH, and the 21st and 28th will be at St Clement with St Peter’s Hall at 140 Friern Road, SE22 0AY. There is a second entrance via Barry Rd which can be accessed by car. Use this entrance for the car park. This entrance is via an unmarked road and it can sometimes be obscured by parked cars. If you are driving south down Barry Rd, the entrance is on your left, shortly after Mulberry Close and opposite Silvester Rd.  

 

Rehearsals will start in November and the show week will be 15th February (so you’d be needed 14th-20th including the get-in). The show will be held at a new venue to DP, the Golden Goose Theatre in Camberwell (SE5 0RR).

Please do note that the most important thing for us when casting a play is that we tell a great story and that all our cast enjoy being part of it. We aim to be fully inclusive, casting on how we feel actors show the character, and not on appearance or accent. We encourage people of all backgrounds to audition for the parts they would most enjoy, and not just those they feel they are 'right' for.
