RICHARD III
Richard: uniquely evil or unfairly condemned? All-controlling super-villain or tortured, fallible man, fighting to save the York dynasty?
How do we reconcile Shakespeare’s devastating portrayal with probable historical reality? To put Richard into his context, to sow doubt without losing the power of Shakespeare’s words and the menace?
Please join us at one of our casting sessions: 24th & 26th June, plus 1st July at the United Reform Church, East Dulwich Grove, SE22 8RH. (Come on the evening that suits you best; get it touch if none are possible.)
We are not asking you to prepare anything, and we are definitely not looking for set-in-stone characterisation, or polished learnt-by-heart iambic pentameter. We want to see your response to the language, your flexibility of approach and, even though this is a serious play, we want you to enjoy the casting experience.
So, if you are worried about on-the-spot reading of Shakespeare for any reason, do let us know: greenroom@dulwichplayers.org (cc'd)
The most important thing for us when casting a play is that we tell a great story and that all our cast enjoy being part of it. We aim to be fully inclusive, casting on how we feel actors show the character, and not on appearance or accent. We encourage people of all backgrounds to audition for the parts they would most enjoy, and not just those they feel they are 'right' for.
NB: You don’t have to be a member to come to an audition, but you will need to join if cast.
